Your information

Privacy

This page explains what information DuVoxa handles, why it is needed, where it is processed, and the choices available to you.

Effective September 18, 2026

In plain language: DuVoxa stores account and learning progress data so lessons work across sessions. Text you ask the AI to process, relevant learning context, and voice recordings you submit are sent to OpenAI to provide AI features. Firebase provides account and cloud storage services. DuVoxa only records while you turn the microphone on.

Information DuVoxa handles

  • Account information: your username, Firebase user ID, authentication method, display name, and optional recovery email. Google sign-in may also provide your name and email address.
  • Learning information: languages, native-language preference, settings, placement answers, saved vocabulary, progress, fluency estimates, streaks, review history, rewards, and feature preferences.
  • Learning content: chat messages, conversation transcripts, selected words or phrases, corrections, focus topics, and other prompts you submit.
  • Voice information: audio recorded between your taps on the microphone button, along with transcripts and AI responses created from the recordings you submit.
  • Feedback: the rating and written comment you submit, the submission time, and the related in-app reward status.
  • Routine service information: hosting, authentication, and API providers may receive IP address, browser or device details, request time, and diagnostic information needed to deliver and protect their services.

Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication. DuVoxa does not store a readable copy of your password.

Where information is stored

Account and synchronized learning data are stored in Google Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. DuVoxa also stores settings, progress, and lesson data in browser storage on the device you use. Browser storage helps the app load quickly and can remain until you clear site data or delete the account.

AI and voice processing

DuVoxa uses OpenAI to generate tutor replies, explanations, corrections, translations, definitions when local dictionaries are not enough, suggested topics, conjugation help, and generated speech.

For those features, DuVoxa sends the text you submit and context needed to answer it, which can include the practice language, native language, level, learning statistics, recent conversation, selected words, and focus topic. In voice practice, tapping the microphone starts recording on your device. Tapping it again stops recording and submits the audio to OpenAI for transcription through our server. The tutor then generates a text reply and an AI-generated spoken version.

Microphone access begins only after you tap to record and grant browser permission. Recording does not restart automatically after a reply. You can cancel a recording by leaving voice practice or revoke microphone permission in your browser or operating system. If DuVoxa falls back to a browser or device speech voice, that platform may process speech under its own settings and privacy terms.

Service providers

DuVoxa relies on providers to operate the service:

  • Google Firebase for authentication and cloud data storage, and Google when you choose Google sign-in.
  • OpenAI for AI text, audio transcription, and generated speech.
  • Resend to deliver password-recovery email when email delivery is configured.
  • The hosting provider to serve the app and its APIs.

These providers process information under their own service terms and privacy practices. Information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States.

How information is used and shared

Information is used to create and secure accounts, synchronize progress, personalize lessons, provide AI and voice features, send requested recovery instructions, award in-app progress or rewards, read feedback, troubleshoot failures, prevent abuse, and maintain the service.

DuVoxa is not built to sell personal information or to use learning content for targeted advertising. Information is shared with the service providers above as needed to operate the app, and may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or secure the service.

Retention and deletion

Active account and learning data are generally retained while your account exists. Recovery information is retained with the account, and submitted feedback is retained so it can be reviewed and so daily reward limits can be enforced.

You can request account deletion from Settings. The deletion flow removes the active Firebase Authentication account, associated Firestore account and learning records, username claim, feedback records, and DuVoxa browser data on that device. Some information may remain temporarily in provider backups, security logs, or other systems where immediate deletion is not technically possible or where retention is required by law.

Signing out does not clear all browser storage. You can clear the site's storage using browser settings and can separately revoke Google account access or microphone permission.

Your choices

  • A recovery email is optional, although account recovery may not be possible without it.
  • Microphone permission is optional; text learning features remain available without it.
  • You can review and change learning preferences in the app and delete your account from Settings.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of personal information.

Security and age considerations

DuVoxa uses browser, hosting, Firebase, and provider security controls, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not put passwords, financial information, health information, government identifiers, or other sensitive personal information into chats or feedback.

DuVoxa is a general language-learning service and does not currently perform age verification. A parent or guardian should supervise use by anyone who cannot legally consent to this data processing on their own.
